What began as a creative outlet as a counter to my career in finance, my photography and painting soon evolved into a more focused and purposeful process. I find the combination of painting and photography rewarding as it has allowed me to explore different creative avenues which often start from the same source of inspiration.

 

My paintings often originate from a photograph, which I use as a reference. My hope is to capture the subject's general form and feeling but allow the art piece to develop organically and drift into an abstract and even surreal style. I enjoy the myriad of directions the painting process can take me, and I'm always striving to add new techniques to my arsenal.

 

Whereas my paintings are more of a journey to the finished product, I have a very specific purpose in mind with my photography, and that is to recreate the feeling and emotion of the moment I'm attempting to capture. This methodology often leads me to various techniques with varying levels of post-processing. So while my approach to each photograph is somewhat inconsistent, my aim is to evoke a consistent level of viewer immersion into a specific time and place.
